Strong decisions earn Schroeder Student Leader of the Month award
Senior Samantha Schroeder has earned Baker University’s Student Leader of the Month award for December based on her leadership skills as president of Exercise Student Alliance.
A graduate of Olathe North High School, Schroeder has been involved with ESSA for several years and has been instrumental in the organization’s growth alongside the development of the university’s corresponding academic program.
“Samantha is an integral part of the exercise science program,” her nominator said. “As a senior, she is a leader amongst her peers and the younger students. She serves as president of the Exercise Science Student Alliance, where she oversees a number of projects. Sammie also serves as a learning/lab assistant for both exercise science and biology as well as serving as a tutor with Student Academic Success.”
Schroeder’s dedication to academics and community involvement resulted in her winning the grand prize in the American College of Sports Medicine’s Get Moving! student contest. She produced a video highlighting events organized by ESSA and the exercise science program to promote physical activity. Schroeder’s accomplishments at Baker are largely due to her natural instincts, according to her nominator.
“It is her innate ability to be a positive leader that makes her stand out. Her peers see her as someone to approach for help for a variety of reasons,” Schroeder’s nominator said. “She remains calm in stressful situations, and she finds solutions by analyzing the situation and making decisions. She is well deserving of this recognition.”
