About
Where Homeschoolers Thrive
Choosing a school to call home for the next four years is a big decision for any young person, and when it’s your first experience learning and living away from home, you have even more questions and concerns.
We hope you’ll consider Baker University.
Take Ownership of Your Studies
Our interdisciplinary general education program, the Baker Core, allows you to build on the hallmarks of your homeschool education: flexibility to guide your own education, exploration of diverse ideas, and creative problem solving.
Through the Baker Core, students acquire the breadth of knowledge in the creative arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences to understand that complex issues demand the complex responses that an innovative, cutting-edge liberal arts education can inspire.
“The nice thing about Baker is that the faculty and staff make it possible for your time at university to be malleable; you can largely choose the direction of your intellectual development. That was particularly important for me, and I have seen it be important for other homeschooled students. Baker was a supportive environment to figure all of that out and the journey eventually came full circle, bringing me back to research and academia.”
Will Duncan, Baker Class of 2012
After homeschooling, Will Duncan earned BAs in international studies and music and a BS in mathematics. He now serves Baker as an assistant professor of mathematics.
A Close-Knit Community
Small class sizes, an active student body, and extensive interaction with professors and fellow students promote a community of belonging and connections that last a lifetime. You won’t be just a face in the crowd.
Get Involved
Probably more than other students, you recognize the amount of learning that takes place outside of a classroom. We do, too. Baker students have many opportunities to perform on stage, lead organizations, compete on athletic teams, provide community service, study abroad, write for the newspaper, or host a radio show.
United Methodist Foundation
Since our founding, Baker has held close ties with what is now known as the United Methodist Church. We pride ourselves on the opportunities we provide students to grow in their faith. University ministry is ecumenical in nature and open to all people of faith regardless of practices and denomination.
We Meet a High Percentage
of Financial Need
96% of Baker students receive financial aid in the form of scholarships and grants—totaling thousands of dollars per student.
74% of Baker students receive participation awards for fine and performing arts, athletics, creative writing, and student-run media.
Last year, nearly $24 million in financial aid benefited Baker students, making their education more affordable.
