More Survival Spanish for Educators
Monday, June 30 - Sunday, August 17
This online, independent course is a continuation of ‘Survival Spanish for Educators’. Completion of that course is not a requirement to take this course. Lessons focus on pronunciation and basic vocabulary or phrases on each theme. These are the themes that were created based on input from previous participants: Hispanic names, Specials and Field Trips, Basic Directions for Using School Devices, Checklists and Forms for Parent Communication, Common Illnesses and Symptoms, Weather and Clothing, Times and Dates. Communicating, even at the word or phrase level, in a student’s first language can be meaningful to the student and useful to the teacher. Disclaimer: The Foreign Service Institute estimates an adult learner, with average aptitude, in an interactive and immersive class with 1-4 students, still needs 240 hours of training for basic or intermediate proficiency and 480-720 hours for advanced proficiency. This is not a conversational Spanish class nor a study of grammar. This class is designed to provide you with the basic skills to be understood and to understand in specific classroom situations.
