Baker University announces search for next president as Dr. Lynne Murray departs at the end of 2024

After a decade of service as the 29th president of Baker University, Dr. Lynne Murray will step down from her position at the end of this calendar year. Dr. Murray will remain in her role until December 31, 2024, working alongside the Board of Trustees to ensure a smooth transition of leadership while the university launches a search for a new president.

The Board of Trustees will immediately begin a national search for Baker University’s next president, led by Trustee John Thomson, Founder and CEO of PayIt, a digital government and payment platform. Thomson, a proud alumnus of Baker University from the class of 1995, brings extensive experience in leadership and innovation to the search committee.

Under Dr. Murray’s leadership, Baker University has experienced significant growth and success. Among her most notable accomplishments is the Forever Orange campaign, which substantially strengthened Baker’s endowment and provided a solid foundation for future progress. Dr. Murray’s guidance during the unprecedented challenges of COVID-19, when the university adapted swiftly to ensure student success while safeguarding the health and well-being of its community.

“Dr. Murray has been an extraordinary leader during her tenure, positioning Baker for continued success,” said Brenda Tuller Stasiulis, Chair of Baker University’s Board of Trustees. “We are profoundly grateful for her decade of service, which has left an indelible impact on the university. We look forward to finding a leader who will build upon this legacy and lead Baker into its next chapter of growth.”

The search committee will provide updates as milestones are reached in the transition. Baker University is well-positioned for future success as it continues to grow its student body and enhance the educational experience that has been the hallmark of its 166-year history.
